MAGNIFY Teen Processing Group
Starting October 28, 2021
Now that our teens are returning to school (for how long, who knows). We need to focus on how they’re adjusting to continued rapid changes, fears and stressors, and the continued mental health symptoms they’re attempting to manage in the midst of our ever changing world.
MAGNIFY addresses the social and emotional needs of teens by providing weekly therapeutic process groups. Group counseling provides youth a unique opportunity for interpersonal learning and can be a mechanism for personal growth and self-empowerment. A process group is intended to share experiences and get support. The point of a process group is to become comfortable sharing about challenges while relating to peers who are also struggling – some with similar and some with different concerns. Groups offer individuals diverse and unique perspectives that contribute to growth and healing.
MAGNIFY is a social-emotional, small therapy group designed to empower and encourage teens to reach their potential through self-awareness, self- acceptance, and the development of interpersonal skills. We believe that most motivated goal-directed behavior happens after youth have the opportunity to be aware of themselves and accept themselves. The MAGNIFY program offers an opportunity for this to be achieved through three goals:
● I am – Many teens have been either explicitly or implicitly told by adults in their life that they have little value, thus resulting in feelings of shame and self-loathing. We hope to help them embrace who they are as individuals and utilize their natural gifts and talents to achieve, while also acknowledging shortcomings or areas of weakness.
● I can – through discussing individual developmental assets and positive strengths that each youth has, we attempt to increase teen’s self-awareness of their abilities and strengths.
● I will – Through discussions about self, we empower teens to think about their future directions and how they can achieve their goals with the innate strengths and assets that they already possess and acknowledge through self-acceptance and awareness.
MAGNIFY consists of weekly, 90-min process group sessions that last for the duration of the academic year (2 semesters; approximately 35 sessions).
Fee: $50 per session
